Our farm sits in the Bredbo Valley, about 55 hectares of mostly hilly country. The whole area was originally farmed as Bredbo Station, a 6500 hectare sheep station, which was slowly split up over the past century. A historic stone cottage with a rich history remains on the property, dating back to the 1830s.  

The area is also culturally significant - the name Bredbo comes from local dialects for a word that means where waters join, referring to the Bredbo River meeting the Murrumbidgee down the road from our farm. Bredbo is the name of our fold.

Bredbo is in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains alpine region, and our farm sits at about 800 meters above sea level. We enjoy a relatively cool climate all year round. We're working to regenerate the property, and try to avoid artificial inputs where possible. Scottish Highland cattle were an obvious choice in our situation, with their ability to cope in cold conditions, and graze or browse a range of food sources.

About us

We (Mitch & Joh) are both professional scientists by trade with combined expertise in climate, environmental and biological science. We both grew up on properties and have always felt drawn back to farming life. Our farm philosophy is to try and be regenerative as much as possible, balancing the difficulty and need to run a profitable small farm. We also have a small 20 hectare restoration project on our property, where we are trying to restore native Snow Gum Grassy Woodlands. Our farm menagerie includes two young kids, dogs, chickens, guinea fowl, sheep, native animals and our cattle of course. Get in touch if you want to talk about any of that stuff!
